Event Recap: Volcom Spot to Spot
Article by Tom Kingsnorth
After a hiatus last season due to Covid, Volcom’s Spot to Spot was back in Avoriaz and we were blessed with tons of pow, some of Europe’s best riders and a simple yet fun contest format.
Whilst Avoriaz can be a little chaotic at times, Volcom know how to make great events and Spot to Spot is one of our favourites. Some might think it’s a little crazy to drive from Innsbruck and back for one day of Snowboarding but that’s what we did and were not disappointed.
For those that are unfamiliar with Spot to Spot, the concept is simple. Volcom bring over most of their European headquarters, team riders and other pros and set up a side hit filled course in central Avoriaz. Riders are judged not on time but on their style, height and flow through the course. This allows everyone to lap the course at their own pleasure. After a quick lunch BBQ, it’s time to head to the specially constructed pro hip and watch as the invited pros put on a show.
Spot to Spot is more of a gathering of like minded people than a contest and this means that all the riders can ride without pressure and have a great time. That being said Austria’s Moritz Amssüs won the Pro Side Hits contest for the men with Simon Maxit and Arthur Longo as runners up. For the Women Maisie Hill won the Womens with Tini Gruber as runner up.
The Pro Hip was won by Arthur Longo, the full results are below.
